my first mother's day

This morning, I woke up in bed to bug's staccato breathes as she lay there playing with her hands and excitedly staring at the ceiling. Andy was already up making coffee and it was just us.

I opened my eyes and was instantly locked with big, brown beauties. She let out a happy squeal--the kind she does a lot lately when she is so thrilled her breathe leaves her for a moment--that I interpreted as happy mother's day mom!

It makes good sense that mother's day is in the spring when bugs can wear darling little dresses, mom's can wear open-toes shoes and walks are full of green and bird songs. I don't even know what we'll do today. We'll call our moms. We'll be outside. I'll nurse Margot. We'll cuddle with our animals and listen to weekend edition. I will do laundry. Not much will be different (well, I do hope for a surprise or two from my man. I actually smell some sort of delicious breakfasty smell right now...) As I was writing that he called me to the table where strawberries, breakfast sandwiches and mimosas awaited. I love my man.

Our day will be like other days but it is a moment to reflect about this amazing world of being someone's mama and of having a mama; that a woman birthed every single person in the entire world. Today, I will spend the day honoring my mom. And the other moms in my life. I love you mom. I love you Joan. I love you Dolly and Barb. I miss you Grammy and Grandmother.

I love you bug. Today, I feel especially lucky.

It was good to see you TWICE this weekend, once last week and once the weekend before - let's keep it up! Not surprising either, considering we've had similar conversations several times, that our posts would also be similar on Mother's Day. To be a mother (man, it's crazy that I can say that!) is so amazing and to share it with other mama friends like you is a true blessing. Happy Motherhood Nici (come get more beer!).
