Bug ate cereal the other night. It seemed so monumental and I now understand why parents think *every little thing* their child does is magnificent. Because it is.
I know that only breast milk is best for the first six months but she is five and a half months old and was totally interested in food. I thought, hey, let's give it a shot and see what happens. I had read a lot about kiddos spitting it out and hating the foreign mush but our girl loved it. She's a regular epicurean. She was especially funny in her highchair that we inherited and needed to be cut down to fit under our kitchen table (the table to be the tray). You see, my man cut it a little low and peanut could barely see over the top. But, we'll make do.
She couldn't get enough and would writhe and pant when I had to go back to the ramekin to get more. I was excited thinking she'd be all good and full for bed, but I looked at the box and in the one tablespoon of cereal she had eaten she got a whole 20 calories. So it didn't make any difference in her sleep but she has already come out of that crazy snap of waking every hour. Like everyone said, it passed and she now just wakes once at 4am and then sleeps until 7 or 8. I am thankful for that.
This video makes me laugh. This was night two.
So I love watching her eat. The food goes everywhere and I cannot wait until we introduce more exciting things like all the apricots and apples I canned for bug last summer. Dang, people sure were right about this whole having a kid thing being fun. I was doubtful but now I get it.

i love andy.
and you and margot of course... but this episode andy is the star.
Your little eyes peeking over the table are too much Bug! You remind me of a little bird sitting in the nest waiting for mama to fly in with a worm....in this case rice cereal.
xoxo, Gram
PS, I think it's BS too Andy!!
awesome! she's tucking in like a champ. We've upped cereal to 2/day to match her number of teeth!!
What a sweet bug! The picture of her peeking over the table made me lol!! So stinkin' cute! What does Andy think is BS? Something about Nexflix? I couldn't hear and was so curious!! What a growing girl she is! I can't believe that's just around the corner for Lily Pie!!!
The last pic is my fave...her looking up and the light just hitting those big eyes...and she holds the spoon! Lainey's a year and she still plays the you-hold-the-bottle game! Oh, she is divine! Food is fun...yes, very monumental.
That first pic is the best. She looks so darling there in the chair. When she starts driving I hope she can see over the dash better than she can see over the table. Such a good girl eating her cereal. Good job Margot bea, OXOXO Gramma J
Ok I have watched the dining video for the hundreth time and it cracks me up. It sorta looks like she hasn't eaten at all since the day she was born. I wonder, is that bib big enough?
